In this section, we’re going to talk about how you can create courses and assign lessons and quizzes to courses with LearnPress.
First, let’s look at how you can install and set up LearnPress:
By far, we already know that LearnPress is a free WordPress plugin. Hence, like any free WordPress plugin, you can easily install it from the WordPress plugin directory.

Now, type the ‘LearnPress’ plugin in the search field at the very top right-hand side of your dashboard. After you’ve found the plugin, click on the Install button.

If you want to learn more, check out our detailed guide on how to install WordPress plugins.
Now before we head toward creating our first courses, we first need to configure our LMS plugin with some basic information.
For that, you’ll need to click on the Quick Setup button that you’ll see as soon as you activate the plugin.
After that, you’ll be redirected to the configuration page of the LearnPress that welcomes you for choosing them. This will be a quick setup wizard that will help you configure the basic settings before you start using this plugin.
However, this step is completely optional and you can skip it now and configure it later. But we insist you should do this at the very beginning of the setup.
To get started with that, click on the Run Setup Wizard button.
You’ll notice that this setup wizard is divided into three different sections, namely Pages, Payment, and Finish.
In this section, you’ll need to create the necessary pages for your LMS site. However, LearnPress comes with default pages that you can go with and make changes to the pages if you want.
The Payment section will require you to provide your PayPal email address along with the currency which will be displayed on your site.
This is the final step where you can install a demo course, create a new course, view their documentation, or go back to your dashboard.
Congratulations, if you’ve been able to install and activate the LearnPress plugin into your WordPress site.
After you’ve installed and activated LearnPress, it’s time to look at how LearnPress works.
First, we’re going to see how we can create courses with LearnPress and build any type of courses we want.
Now let’s look at the basic steps to do that.
First of all, navigate to the LearnPress Menu from your dashboard and select the Courses option. After that, it’ll take you to the Courses page from where you can see a list of your previously created courses.
If you’re creating your courses for the first time, then you’ll see that the list is empty. Now to create your very first-course click on the Add New button.
After that, it’ll take you to the Add New Course editor page where you’ll be creating your first course. Now you’ll notice this page is mainly categorized into three sections – Course Overview, Curriculum, and Course Settings.
In this section, you can give a title to your new course and then add a description for the course. When you’re adding a description, you can also attach some media to it such as image, video, and audio.
Likewise, in the Publish section, you can set the publish date of the course. In this way, students will only be able to see the course content and enroll in the course when it is published.
Besides that, you can assign your course to one or many categories in the Course Categories area. Just below that in the Featured Image section, you need to choose the image for all the courses. This will be displayed on the Courses page and single course page.
And, if you don’t have the featured image for your courses, then it’ll automatically display the default image for that course.
This Course Curriculum section, it’ll display all your sections, lessons, and quizzes of the courses.
To be able to create sections, lessons, and quizzes, you’ll need to enter the title for the section, then press the Enter button. This will then create the section for you.
And inside that section, you’ll create a lesson. For that, you’ll have to first select the icon as soon as in the image below and enter the title for the lesson. After that, press the Enter button to create your first lesson.
Similarly, let’s create a quiz, and for that first select the icon as soon in the image below. Next, you’ll enter the title for the quiz, then press the Enter button.
Now to edit those items in the courses, you’ll have to hover to that item and click the Edit icon (pencil icon). After that, it’ll open the Edit page in the new tab.
Finally, if you click on the Select items button then you’ll be able to select the items that you want to add to the course. Remember that, you can only add the course items that have not been assigned to any course.
“However, you’ll be able to add all these items (section, lesson, and quiz) to the course only after you’ve updated the course.”
In this Course Settings section, you’ll be able to configure some of the general settings related to courses.
For instance, you can set the duration to be able to access the courses. Not just that, you can also enable the block content option to block the course from the students when the duration expires.
Likewise, you can also set the prices for each course. For that, you need to click on the Pricing option and then you can set the price for that course. Also, you can schedule the sales and discount period for a certain time.
We just looked at how we can easily create courses with LearnPress. Now let’s look at how we can create lessons and assign them to our course.
However, you can create a lesson in three different ways:
The first way to add a new lesson would be when you’re editing a course. While editing a course, you need to scroll down to the Curriculum section and enter the title for the lesson and then press the Enter button. This will then create a new lesson as shown in the image below:
Following that, hover the mouse to just create a lesson and click on the Edit icon (pencil icon). Now, you’re directed to the new tab where you can edit the lesson.
The second method would be to navigate to your WordPress dashboard and go to LearnPress > Lessons > Add New.
The third way to create a lesson would be from your WordPress top admin bar. All you need to do is hover over the + New option and it’ll popup a dropdown menu. And from that list of menus, you’ll need to click on the Lesson option.
Once you’ve tried creating a lesson following any one of those methods, it’ll redirect you to the Add New Lesson editor page.
The first thing you need to give a proper name to your lesson. After that, you’ve to provide a short description of what your lesson is about. While describing your lesson, you can use multimedia content (like image, video, audio) for more engaging and interactive content.
Following that, in the Lesson Settings section, you can set the duration for a lesson. If you set it to 0 then it won’t display the duration, or else the lesson will display the duration you set.
Similarly, you can also enable the preview option for your customers. This way your customers will be able to preview the lesson content before buying that lesson.
Once you’ve created a lesson, it’s time to assign this lesson to a course. Go to Dashboard > LearnPress > Courses. Then, select and click on the course that you want to assign your lesson to from the list.
After that, go to the Curriculum section of that course and click on the Select items button. This will then pop up a window where you need to choose the lessons you want to add to the course and then click on the Add button.
That’s it! This is how you create a new lesson and assign it to a course.
So far we’ve already looked at how we can create our first new course, lesson, and assign that lesson to a course. Now for active participation from the students and to make the courses more interesting, let’s see how well LearPress lets you create quizzes and questions.
To begin with just like the LearnPress lesson, you can also create a quiz in three different ways:
The first way to create a quiz would be when you’re editing a course. While editing a course, you need to scroll down to the Curriculum section. After that, enter the title for the quiz and then press the Enter button as shown in the image below:
Next, you need to hover over the just-created quiz and click on the Edit icon (pencil icon). And it’ll direct you to the new tab where you can edit the quiz.
The second method would be to navigate to your WordPress dashboard and go to LearnPress > Quizzes > Add New.
The third way would be through your WordPress top admin bar. All you need to do is hover over the + New option and it’ll popup a dropdown menu. And from that list of menus, you’ll need to click on the Quiz option as shown in the image below:
Inside the Add New Quiz editor page, you’ll find that the page is further divided into three main sections – Quiz Overview, Questions, and Quiz Settings.
This section is all about what your students see before they start the quiz. You can begin by adding the title to your quiz. Followed by that, in the description box, you can introduce your quiz, content, mark rules, purposes, and anything you want.
Next is the Questions section which is the most important section of this page. As you’ll be creating all the different types of questions that students will do in the quiz.
To create your first question in your quiz, all you need to do is add a question inside the Create a new question field.
After that, you need to choose the quiz type that you want to include in your quiz. Here LearnPress supports four different types of quizzes. That includes True/False questions, Single Choice questions, Multiple Choice questions, and Fill In Blanks questions.
For instance, we’re going to choose the True or False question type. In this type of question, students can only choose 1 in 2 answers from what you’ve set.
Once you’ve selected the True or False question type, provide the question title, description, and choose the correct answer.
Alongside that, you can also add points, hints, and explanations for that question. Similar to this you can also create other types of questions for your quiz with ease.
In this Quiz Settings section, you’ll find many general settings related to the quiz.
For instance, you can set the duration with minutes, hours, days, or weeks for solving that quiz. You can also set the conditions for the students that they must achieve to pass the quiz.
Likewise, you can set how many times the students can retake their quiz. Also, you can enable the Review option to let the students review their quiz after they finish the quiz.
To assign a quiz to a course, you need to go to the Dashboard > LearnPress > Courses. Then, click on the course that you want to assign your quiz to from the list.
After that, scroll down to the Curriculum section and click on the Select items button. This will then pop up a window where you need to choose the quizzes you want to add to the course and then click on the Add button.
Congratulation! If you’ve been able to create a quiz and assign it to a course using these simple steps. This is how you can create a new quiz and assign it to a course.
Once you’ve added courses, lessons, and quizzes to your learning site, now let’s look at what they look like in the front-end. Also, we’ll look at how students can access the courses and their curriculum from the site.
Let’s start with how we can access our courses. All you need to do is click on the All Courses menu at the top of the page. This will then redirect you to the next page that would list all the courses that you’ve created so far.
For instance, we’ve created a course called HTML as shown in the image above. This course is a paid course that would cost you $6 for enrolling in this course.
If you click on the View More button, then it’ll take you to the single course page of HTML. Here you’ll find a short description of the course.
Likewise, to know more about what this course has to offer, you can click on the Curriculum option. This will then display the list of lessons and quizzes that the course has to offer. However, to get enrolled in this course, you’ll have to purchase it first.
Finally, after looking at this all we can guarantee you that your students will be able to easily use the site without any hassle. The front user interface is quite simple and easy to use.
